GPS and future warfareThe GPS (Global Positioning System) has dual usage. It can be used for civilian purposes such as truck location services as well as military purposes such as target identification and destruction. The later obviously require political control over the GPS system. This is probably one of the reasons behind the Galileo project initiated by the European nations. GPS is arguably superior to any other form of present day target identification and location technologies. It is very likely that in the future, most of the defence installations incorporate one or the other form of GPS. The book precision revolution: GPS and the future of aerial warfare gives in-depth discussion on the present day, and future GPS systems. You can read more about this here.
