Fujitsu Computer Systems and Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade®)
announced this week that Fujitsu Computer Systems will begin shipping the
ETERNUS™ VS900, a high-performance storage virtualization solution running on
the Brocade SilkWorm® Fabric Application Platform (SilkWorm Fabric AP). The
SilkWorm Fabric AP is the industry’s leading intelligent Storage Area Network
(SAN) switch designed to support SAN-based applications for storage environment
management and administration.
Using the latest technology from Fujitsu and Brocade, the ETERNUS VS900
solution delivers enterprise-class virtualization designed to meet customer
demand for streamlined storage, efficient data management increased capability
utilization and data replication between disparate storage systems.
The Brocade intelligent switch provides an out-of-band architecture that
enables the ETERNUS VS900 solution to achieve scalability with very high data
availability and performance for constantly changing IT environments. The
ETERNUS VS900 solution is also designed to streamline resource provisioning and
simplify the management of enterprise data through a transparent, heterogeneous
pool of data that is managed from a single, user-friendly platform.
“The ETERNUS VS900 network storage virtualization solution leverages the
processing and storage networking power of the Brocade SilkWorm Fabric
Application Platform, delivering to our customers the benefits of superior
virtualization technology, improved performance and increased flexibility,”
said Richard McCormack, senior vice president of product and solutions marketing
at Fujitsu Computer Systems. “This continues the Fujitsu tradition of
providing customers with the most advanced solutions available.”
“Enterprise IT managers are under increasing pressure to simplify data
management, control costs and comply with extensive regulations,” said Tom
Buiocchi, vice president of worldwide marketing and support at Brocade. “The
new Fujitsu ETERNUS VS900 solution addresses these challenges by improving
performance and data management of SAN-based resources for a lower total cost of
ownership.”
The Brocade SilkWorm Fabric AP is an open, intelligent switching platform for
hosting fabric applications. It is designed to centralize data management,
movement and administration while simplifying the administration of storage
environments through consolidation. The platform enables a wide range of
fabric-based storage applications—such as volume management, data migration,
virtualization and data replication—to be deployed on a scalable and
intelligent hardware platform.
Improving Storage Utilization. By creating virtual disk space, the ETERNUS
VS900 solution eliminates the administrator’s need to physically configure
disk arrays. It uses a common management platform to simplify data migration and
improve capacity management across storage systems, which results in better
capacity utilization. The centralized management software also enables online
data migration to new disk arrays and supports disk expansion to meet storage
capacity shortages without changing server settings.
ETERNUS VS900 solution uses an out-of-band storage replication system,
and preserves all of the native performance and software functionality that
comes with the physical devices being virtualized.
ETERNUS Product Series. The new virtualization solution was designed to be
used in conjunction with the ETERNUS3000 midrange storage solution and the
ETERNUS6000 enterprise-class storage solutions.
Availability. The ETERNUS VS900 network storage virtualization solution is
available in the United States beginning December 1, 2005.
